Add up all four edges of the TV or the recess it sits in, in metres. A 65 inch TV is about 4.1m around; a typical media wall recess is 5 to 7m. The strip runs around the back edge as one loop so the glow spills evenly onto the wall.

Description

A media wall without lighting is a big dark rectangle that swallows the room after dusk. A hidden strip around the TV recess throws an even halo onto the wall, the screen appears to float, and short strips in each niche turn the shelves into lit display. This one prewired kit does both.

Every kit is built to your wall rather than sold in fixed lengths. Measure the perimeter of your TV or the recess it sits in, or count your niches and their average width, and we cut each strip to size, make up the links between them, and size the driver for the exact load before it ships. The price updates as you build, so what you see is what you pay.

How to Build your Media Wall Lighting Kit

Five choices, in order, in the configurator above:

  1. Where the light goes. Behind the panel or TV for the floating backlit look, or in the display niches, one strip per niche.
  2. Colour. RGBW for colour changing with a proper white. Tunable white (CCT) you tune anywhere from 2700K to 6500K. Fixed white in warm 3000K to cool 6000K. Or one fixed colour.
  3. Control. An RF remote for the colour changing options, or static or dimmable from an RF remote for the whites.
  4. Measurements. The perimeter of the TV or recess, or the number of niches and their average width.
  5. Add-ons. An aluminium profile with diffuser, and a spare connector pack.

A Screen That Floats, Not Glares

Bias lighting is the difference between a screen that dominates a dark room and one that sits in it. The glow behind the panel softens the contrast between a bright picture and a dark wall, which is the jump your eyes keep adjusting across through an evening of viewing, and many people find watching more comfortable for it.

Colour is where a media wall earns its keep. The RGBW strip mixes any colour for film nights and switches to a true dedicated white the rest of the time, all from the handset. If colour is not your thing, the tunable white strip moves from a warm evening glow to a clean neutral, and the fixed white COB gives one continuous dot-free line in the niches.

What Is Included:

  • LED strip, cut to your measurements, one pre-wired segment per niche if you light them
  • A driver sized automatically for your total load
  • RF remote and receiver, or the RF remote dimmer, depending on the control you choose
  • Niche-to-niche link cables and solderless connectors
  • Aluminium profile and diffuser if you add it
  • Wiring diagram and measuring guide

The link cables run behind the wall board between niches, so one kit and one driver light the whole wall.

How do I fit my media wall lighting kit?

Everything is pre-wired and the connectors are solderless. For a backlit TV or recess, the strip fixes around the back edge, facing the wall, in one loop; the wall needs the screen or panel to stand slightly proud so the light can escape. For niches, each strip fixes under the top front edge of its recess. Fit the strips before the wall is closed up if you are mid-build, and leave the driver somewhere reachable.

Whether you need an electrician comes down to the driver. A backlit TV alone usually runs from a plug-in driver behind the unit. A full recess or a wall of lit niches steps up to a hardwired driver, which is work for a qualified electrician. The configurator tells you which one your kit uses before you order.

FAQs for our Media Wall Lighting Kits

Do I need an electrician?

Not for a backlit TV on a plug-in driver, which reaches a socket behind the wall unit. Larger builds use a hardwired mains driver and do need one. Your kit tells you which before you buy.

How do I measure for a backlit TV?

Add up all four edges of the TV or the recess it sits in. A 55 inch TV is about 3.6m around; a 65 inch is about 4.1m. The strip runs around the back edge as one loop, so the perimeter is the strip length.

Should the strip go on the TV or on the wall?

On the back of the TV or panel itself, facing the wall. That keeps the halo even around the screen and moves with the bracket if the TV tilts or swings.

What colour should TV bias lighting be?

For accurate pictures, a neutral white close to 6500K keeps what your eyes see consistent with how the film was mastered. For atmosphere, the RGBW strip gives you any colour and still switches back to a true white from the same remote.

Can the same kit light the niches too?

The kit lights one position per build: the panel loop or the niches. Most media walls order one of each, and both arrive prewired to their own measurements. The niches option cuts one strip per niche and links them behind the wall board.

Are the lights dimmable?

Yes. The colour changing strips dim from their own remote. Choose Dimmable for the white strips and they come with an RF remote dimmer and receiver, whatever the length.

Does the wall need to be finished before I order?

No. Measuring is easier mid-build, the strips are easier to fit before the boarding closes, and the link cables are made long enough to route behind the wall. If the wall is already finished, everything still fits from the front.
