Description
Decking that disappears at dusk, borders you cannot see and steps you take on trust: garden lighting fixes the hours you actually sit outside. One prewired strip runs along the deck edge, under the handrail or around the border as a single unbroken line of light, with nothing to see by day but the glow at night.
Every kit is built to your run rather than sold in fixed reels. Tell the configurator the length you want to light and we cut the IP68 strip to your measurement, reseal the cut end so the rating holds, size a weatherproof driver for the exact load and wire the lot before it ships. The price updates as you build, so what you see is what you pay.
How to Build your Garden & Decking Lighting Kit
Four choices, in order, in the configurator above:
- Colour. Warm white 3000K for timber, seating and anything you want to feel like candlelight, or natural white 4000K for a cleaner, cooler line on modern grey or composite boards.
- Control. Static on a switch, dimmable, or motion activated with a sensor so the light meets you on the steps and switches itself off after you have gone in.
- Measurement. One number: the total length the light travels, in metres. Along the deck edge, under the rail, around the border. Measure the path, not the area.
- Add-ons. An aluminium profile with diffuser for a flush, walk-past-proof finish, and a spare connector pack.
Sealed Against the Weather
Outdoor strip fails at the ends, not in the middle. The strip in this kit is IP68 rated, sheathed in silicone along its whole length, and because we cut it to your measurement we reseal the cut end before it ships, so the rating holds where the scissors went. That is the difference between a strip rated for weather and a strip that survives one summer.
The driver is just as important and more often forgotten. Every driver in this kit is IP67 rated and made for outdoor mains installation; there is no plug-in option here, because an indoor plug adapter in a garden is how these projects go wrong. The configurator sizes it automatically with 20 percent headroom, which keeps it cool and extends its life.
What Is Included:
- IP68 COB LED strip, cut to your length, cut end resealed
- A weatherproof IP67 driver sized automatically for your load
- A dimmer or motion sensor, depending on the control you choose
- Feed leads for every branch of the run
- Aluminium profile and diffuser if you add it
- Wiring diagram and measuring guide
Longer runs are fed in parallel every five metres rather than daisy-chained, so the far end of the deck is exactly as bright as the near end.
How do I fit my kit outside?
The strip and its connections run at 24V, which is safe to handle, so fixing the strip is a job you can do yourself. Mount it under the lip of the deck board, on the underside of the handrail, or in the optional profile set into the edge, so it is never walked on and never sits in standing water. It fixes the same way on composite boards as on timber.
The mains side is different. Every kit in this range uses a hardwired outdoor driver rather than a plug, so the connection to the mains must be made by a qualified electrician and protected by an RCD. Everything after the driver arrives prewired.
FAQs for our Garden & Decking Lighting Kits
Can the kit stay outside all year?
Yes. The strip is IP68 rated and sealed along its length, the cut end is resealed before dispatch, and the driver is IP67 and built for permanent outdoor installation. Keep the strip out of standing water and it lives outside through winter.
Do I need an electrician?
For the mains connection, yes. The driver is hardwired and must be fitted by a qualified electrician on an RCD protected supply. Everything on the 24V side arrives prewired and goes together by hand.
How do I measure my deck or border?
Follow the path you want the light to take and add up the metres. A deck edge that turns a corner is still one run; the strip follows it. If you are lighting two separate areas, order a kit for each so both get a correctly sized driver.
Will it fix to composite decking?
Yes. The strip mounts under the board lip or in the aluminium profile, and neither cares whether the board is timber or composite. Nothing is screwed through the strip itself.
Can it come on by itself when I walk out?
Choose the motion activated option and the kit includes a sensor that switches the run on when you step out and off again after you have gone in. The sensor is rated to 120W, which covers around twelve metres of this strip, and the configurator checks your run against that limit before you order.
What is the longest run one kit can light?
About sixteen metres on the largest outdoor driver, fed in parallel every five metres so the brightness stays even. If your run is longer, get in touch and we will quote for a multi-driver installation.
