Description
Stair lighting that comes on as you reach the bottom step, then switches itself off again. Add the PIR sensor and the kit does that out of the box, so there is no reaching for a switch on a dark landing and nothing left burning all night.
Every kit is built to your staircase rather than sold in fixed lengths. Tell the configurator how many steps you have and how wide they are, and we cut the strip to suit, size the driver for that exact load, and pre-wire the lot before it ships. Prices start at £48.43 and update as you build, so what you see is what you pay.
How to Build your Strip Light Kit
Five choices, in order, in the configurator above:
- Where the light goes. Under each step for the tread-by-tread look, under the handrail for one continuous line, or up the wall alongside the flight.
- Colour. Fixed white in warm 3000K, natural 4000K, pure 5000K or cool 6000K. Adjustable white you tune anywhere from 2700K to 6500K. RGB or RGBW for colour changing. Or one fixed colour in red, green, blue, pink or orange.
- Control. Static on the wall switch, dimmable, motion activated with a PIR sensor, or an RF remote for the colour changing options.
- Measurements. Number of steps and tread width, or a total run length for a handrail or a wall.
- Add-ons. An aluminium profile with diffuser, and a spare connector pack.
Motion Activated Stair Lights
The PIR sensor picks up movement at the foot of the stairs and brings the lights up as you approach, then turns them off once you have gone. It suits a landing or hallway you walk through at night.
The sensor is rated to 120W, which covers a normal flight on the white and single colour strips, up to about fifteen steps in white and further again in a solid colour. The colour-changing strips draw more power per metre, so motion is available up to roughly nine or ten steps on those. The configurator works this out from your measurements and tells you if your run is over the limit, rather than letting you order something that will not work.

The white and adjustable white strips are dotless COB at CRI 90 and above, so you get one even line of light instead of a row of visible diodes.
How do I fit my kit to my stairs?
Everything is pre-wired, and the connectors are solderless, so the strip and the links go together by hand. Whether you need an electrician comes down to the driver. Shorter runs use a plug-in driver that goes into a standard socket, or into a fused spur if you would rather it was out of sight. Longer runs need a larger driver wired in, and that part is a job for a qualified electrician. The configurator tells you which one your kit uses before you order.

Do I need an electrician?
Not for shorter runs on a plug-in driver. Longer runs use a hardwired driver and do need one. Your kit tells you which before you buy.
Will the lights come on by themselves?
They will if you choose the motion-activated option. The PIR sensor triggers on movement and switches off on its own.
Can I light just the handrail?
Yes. Choose under rail and give us the total run length instead of a step count.
How long does it take?
Every kit is made to order and ships in three to five working days.
What if my staircase is unusually long?
Runs are fed in parallel every five metres so the far end is as bright as the first step. There is a maximum length for each strip type, and the configurator will say if you are over it. Get in touch, and we will quote for it.
Can I fit the profile on any option?
On all of them except RGBW, where the 12mm strip fills the channel.
