Installation Guides

How Do I Install LED Strip Lights? The first thing to consider when planning your LED lighting installation is which LED strip to use. We have a wide selection of LED strip lights available including white, RGB and RGBW in both IP65 and IP68.

How Do I Install LED Strip Lights?

When using white LED strip light you can choose multiple options to get exactly what you need. All of our LED tape lights are dimmable and you can choose the most suitable way to dim the lighting.

If you’d like to use a remote control or wall-mounted touch panel you would need the standard LED driver. If you’d like to dim the LED lights from a traditional wall-mounted rotary dimmer switch, you would require the mains dimmed LED power supply. No matter how you’d like to control the white LED strip lights you’ll always need an LED driver. All of our LED strip lights are low voltage (12v/24v) to make installation safer and easier. We have always found mains voltage (240v) LED strip lights to be unreliable and not as easy to work with.

How to Choose the LED Controls?

If you’re using either the RGB or RGBW LED strip lighting you would always use the standard LED driver. This is because the control for the LED lights controls both the dimming and the colour of the LED’s.

Choosing the LED controls you want to use is very much down to personal preference. We have a selection of remote controls, wall-mounted touch panels and WiFi controls to choose from. We have both single and multi-zone controllers available, meaning individual LED strip lights can be personalised to light different colours from the same control. Our most advanced WiFi LED controller can individually control up to 16 zones of LED strip light.

All of our IP65 rated LED strip lights are sold by the metre, each one can be cut down on installation by as little as 2.5cm to ensure an accurate fit. When choosing your LED lights you will have all the information on cutting intervals available on the web page for that specific LED strip. All the images you see on the website are of the actual product, enabling you to make an informed decision on what would be best for your installation.

How Do I Install Aluminium Profile For LED Lights?

Along with our LED strip lighting, we sell a range of aluminium profiles. With eleven different profiles to choose from, you can find the perfect aluminium housing to suit your LED installation here.

When installing the aluminium profile we offer multiple different methods of suitably mounting the profile. Where applicable the aluminium profile is available with specific mounting clips, designed to hold the profile in place. Also available is a double-sided foam tape. The tape is 16mm wide so it fits perfectly on the back of the aluminium profile. Finally we have an adhesive compound. Gun mounted, this fast acting glue is perfect for a neat and tidy installation.

The majority of our aluminium profiles are available in either a 1m or 2m length. The profiles can be cut at any interval. We always recommend fitting the diffuser cover to the profile before cutting, this helps ensure both are the same length and you achieve a smooth cut of the diffuser cover. There are multiple ways of cutting the aluminium profile, an electric chop saw will provide a flush, straight cut of both the aluminium and the diffuser cover.

You can also cut the LED profile by hand, simply mark the required cut interval and carefully cut the aluminium with a hack saw. When negotiating a corner we always recommend cutting the LED profile on a 45 degree angle.

About our Aluminium Profile

Most of our LED aluminium profiles are available with both a clear and opaque diffuser cover. The clear cover is completely transparent, ideal if the emitting surface of the aluminium can’t be seen. The opaque diffuser cover is slightly opaque, this means it reduces dotting from the individual LEDs on the strip itself. The opaque diffuser cover does not remove any of the brightness from the LED strip, it simply blends the LED light slightly.

All of our IP65 rated LED strip lights fit in each of our aluminium profiles. Our LED lights range from 8mm wide to 12mm wide and fit neatly in to our aluminium profiles. With many accessories available to match each of our individual profiles, you can ensure you get a professional finish to the job. Don’t forget, we’re only a phone call away if you need any help with planning or installing your LED system.

How Do I Install Composite Coving For LED Lighting?

The latest addition to our catalogue is the composite LED coving. Available in five different designs, this light weight profile is ideal for uplighting around any ceiling. Made from a dense polyurethane material, this LED profile is easy to install and cut.

To mount the composite LED coving we would always recommend using the compound grab adhesive, ideal for a fast and effective installation. When marking out for the composite LED coving you will need either a spirit level or a laser level. Ensuring you have an accurate level line around the room is crucial for a professional finish.

Cutting the composite LED coving is very straight forward. Similar to the cutting method for the aluminium profile, we recommend using a chop saw. This will provide an accurate and professional cut prior to the installation. If a chop saw is not available the composite LED coving can be easily cut with a fine toothed wood saw.

Once the composite LED coving has been fitted to the desired area, a small amount of decorators caulk can be used to smooth any joints and corners. All of our composite LED covings are paintable and come in an undercoat finish.

Similarly to the aluminium housing, all of our IP65 LED strip lights fit neatly in our composite coving.
